EXPLORATION SKILL QUIZ

If you are flying from Hyderabad to Madurai and your flight leaves Hyderabad at 4 PM and reaches Madurai by 5 30 PM . You have got a seat which is on the left side window of  the plane and your friend  Monica gets a seat on the right side window of the plane.( all seat face towards the front i.e cockpit side)From whose side will  the sun rays enter through the glass  window of the plane.
A.      Yourself
B.      Monica
C.      Both equally
D.      None will find the rays entering through the window.
2.       Your plane takes off from Pontlanak (Borneo island , Indonesia )at noon and flies continuously towards the west over  the equator and reaches Quito and it is noon the moment your plane lands there. At what speed should your plane fly if during the entire flight so  that the sun is vertically over the plane. Which information will be of relevance for you ?
A.      Time of departure from Pontlanak (LT) and time of arrival in Quito.
B.      Time lag with respect to GMT of Pontlanak and Quito.
C.      The Height above Mean sea level the two places are
D.      The longitude of the two places
E.       The length of equator in Kilometers
( this is a multiple answer question , how will you use the information to  calculate the speed of the plane.)

3.       Maldives and Lakshadweep support very large population even though they do not produce much of their food requirement especially rice which is the staple diet there. It does not mean that these islands were colonized during recent times, people in very large numbers have inhabited these islands for hundreds of years . Food grain is transported from India and Sri Lanka. This used to be done in the past (even during the times of sailing ships). Dry fish , copra and Jaggery(gur) used to be brought to India and Sri Lanka from Lakshadweep and Maldives. Rice was taken from India and Sri Lanka to these islands. Which winds in ancient times would take food grains to these islands and which would bring copra, dry fish and jaggery  to Indian and Sri Lanka.
A.      Retreating monsoon only because the sea would be very rough during advancing monsoon
B.      Advancing monsoon in former and retreating monsoon in latter case,
C.      Retreating monsoon in former and advancing monsoon in the latter case.
      D.       None of the above.
CLUE FOR ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS
1.       Take a map of India . Take a toy plane ( or take something and imagine it as an aero plane and imagine it flying from Hyderabad to Madurai (in southward direction )
2.       Find out the exact length of equator , divide it by 360 and you will know what is the length of 1 degree longitude in kilometers at the equator. What  are the longitude of two places find the degrees separating the two place . Multiply the degree separating the two place with the kilometers which is approximately 111 kms. How much time it would take earth to rotate that many degrees.( I think now you can get to the answer)
40075/360 =111.32 km. fnd the longitude of Pontlanak and Quito . What is the difference between the two longitude. If you multiply it by 4 you will get the number  of minutes it takes for the plane to fly from  Pontlanak to Quito in other words the time that needs to elapse for noon to occur in Quito after Pontlanak.( use pen and atlas)
3.       Check the wind direction in the atlas during advancing and retreating monsoon season

Many  aliens from a faraway galaxy plans to land on planet earth. Their  spacecraft can land anywhere on the land ( not in water) . Your alien friends walks very slowly and cannot travel by any of the vehicles of earth . They will be interacting mainly with the people of the area where they landed. Each alien is capable of speaking and understanding only one language of Earth . They have been trained  in the language before coming to earth( the aliens have picked up the radio and television waves of various languages , deciphered them and taught it to its people. Alien Alpha can speak German, Alien Beta can speak Arabic, Alien gamma can Speak Bangla, Alien Delta can speak Russian, Alien Theta can speak Portuguese , Alien omega can speak   Sinhalese,  Alien Pi can speak Persian , Alien Zeta can speak Spanish , Alien  Sigma can speak Mandarin, Alien  Rho can speak French . The aliens have been provided with watches which has been set at GMT  they have to do the necessary corrections in their place of stay. They will have to set it ahead or behind GMT   . Given below are cities , you have to tell me which alien can land there and by how much he is going to adjust his watch( you can tell me the value in( + or – i.e ahead or behind GMT)
